I'm David Jackson. Twenty-one years in the MSP industry - I owned one, sold it, ran Operations for another MSP, then spent years inside ConnectWise, Wise-Sync, and Sea-Level Operations/Pax8 Academy helping MSPs.
These days I consult to MSP owners on finance and operations, and help build company processes that work for every brain on the team.
I was diagnosed with ADHD in 2024. A lot of my career made more sense afterwards. The hyperfocus that could rebuild a client's whole AD or virtualisation infrastructure over one weekend. But pairing that with the simple three-line email that sat in drafts for a month because sending it was somehow impossible.
Then there's the part nobody says out loud at conferences. Everyone else looks like they've got the basics handled - invoices out on time, dinner sorted before 8pm - while you put in twice the effort for the same result. Same game everyone is playing, but it feels like you're played on Level 12 Hard Mode.
Since then I've had the same quiet conversation with a lot of people at industry events. Usually late in the evening, usually after someone else says it first.
“Yeah. Me too.”
This industry is full of us. Everything we've each worked out the hard way stays stuck in our own heads. It doesn't need to be this hard, or worked out from scratch every time.
A place for that conversation to happen in daylight. ADHD, autism, AuDHD, dyslexia, or undiagnosed and starting to wonder - if you run or help run an MSP and your brain works sideways, it's for you.
It goes wider than us, though. When a business builds its processes to work for the people who find them hardest, they get better for everyone. Write a runbook that works for a tech with nothing left in the tank, and your new starter can follow it too. Build a handover that holds up on someone's worst day, and it holds up when they're off sick.
Designing for the edges fixes the middle.
I'm not going to pretend it's built. Right now it's a name and a growing list of people who want in. I'd rather shape it around who actually turns up than guess.
I ordered these for IT Nation. They didn't arrive in time. Still don't know why not 😊
Tick the box and I'll get in touch for your address. Australian addresses only, while I've still got them. There are Be FOCUSful fidget cubes too - those I don't post, but grab me at an event and one's yours.
Happy to talk through how ADHD shows up in your business - yours, or someone on your team you're trying to work well with. No charge and no pitch. I'm not a clinician. What I can offer is being seen by someone who's run the same gauntlet, and 21 years of knowing how MSPs actually work.
The ideas, tools and tips I've collected since the diagnosis. Some of it will be new. Some will just explain something you've been doing for years without knowing why.
When Be FOCUSful turns into something more real, you'll hear first, and you'll have shaped what it is.
Email's the only thing I need. I won't sell you anything, or share your details.
